Which course should I study? (options below)

Graduate Diploma in Education (Montessori)

The Graduate Diploma course is for people aiming to obtain Teacher Registration.

There is a prerequisite of a Bachelor degree in any discipline for entry into this course. This must be an Australian recognised Degree.

We offer two age groupings - 3-6 Early Childhood or 6-12 years Primary.

Upon completion of the Graduate Diploma, you will be eligible to teach in both Montessori and Mainstream schools in Australia. If you undertake the Graduate Diploma you will be eligible to apply for teacher registration, either directly or through  Mutual Recognition with WACOT (West Australian college of Teaching).Please note however some states do not recognise the Early Childhood component of our Graduate Diploma (3-6 years) for work in early childhood environments. *please check with the Teacher registration authority and Department of Childrens Services (DOCS) in your state prior to enrolling.



Diploma of Early Childhood & Primary Education (Montessori)

The pre requisite to this course is a year 12 Certificate or equivalent.

You will not be eligible to register as a teacher with this course alone unless you have a teaching qualification. The Diploma can be used as a pathway in to a Bachelor of Education at University, you may be eligible for up to 2 years credit at some Universities into the Bachelor of Education, please check with your preferred University.

If you already have Teacher registration and are aiming to become a Montessori teacher, this is the recommended course for you.

The Diploma of Early Childhood & Primary Education (Montessori) with an ACCCO conversion to a Children’s Services Diploma will enable you to work in a Montessori or mainstream Child care Centre.

 

Advanced Certificate Course (Montessori Education)

Open to those working in early childhood environments and who do not require a qualification of Diploma or above. Can be articulated to Diploma of Early Childhood & Primary Education (Montessori) and an ACCCO (Australian Child Care Career Options) Children’s Services Diploma (recognised in all Australian States) (no prerequisites).

 

When can I start my course?

Enrolment is continuous. We don’t have school terms; our enrolments are year round. As soon as you receive your course materials, you may begin.

 

What if I am from Overseas?

We welcome overseas students, but please be aware:

There will be travel required to all of the compulsory workshops; we do not offer workshops outside of Australia.

We are unable to sponsor any kind of Visa through MWEI (Aust) Inc.

 

What is an Australian recognised Degree?


If you have an overseas University Degree and would like to apply for the Graduate Diploma, your Degree must be recognised by “The Overseas Qualifications unit. You can apply directly to http://www.det.wa.edu.au/training/oqu/

 

Are your courses accredited?

YES, the two longer courses are (Graduate Diploma and Diploma). MWEI is a Registered Training Organisation.

The Graduate Diploma in Education (Montessori) is accredited with the Office of Higher Education and recognised by teacher registration bodies in all states through WACOT.

The Diploma of Early Childhood & Primary Education (Montessori) is accredited by the Office of Higher Education.

The Advanced Certificate course in not currently accredited by is a valued qualification by Montessori schools & centres.

How long will it take me to finish my course?

Our courses are all self paced with a minimum and maximum timeframe:

Graduate Diploma:  1 year (full time)  or up to 3 yeas (part time)

Diploma of Early Childhood & Primary Education (Montessori): 2 years full time (Montessori) or up to 4 years (part time)

Advanced Certificate :   1 year (full time) or up to 3 years (part time)

 

Are all components of the courses external?

No, there are compulsory face-to-face workshops and lectures with all of MWEI Courses. The number of face-to-face workshop days is twenty (20) except for the Advanced Certificate Course, which ranges from 10 -20 days depending upon the age-range chosen.
Are workshops held near me?

We make a commitment to hold workshops on a 2 year cycle in WA, SA, QLD, and Vic. Some of the locations we have held workshops are:

Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Newcastle.

To attend all required workshops in one year,students  may be required to travel interstate.

Do I need to attend workshops?

Yes, as a requirement to complete the course, you must attend all of the workshops required for your specific course. At the workshops you will gain knowledge about the Montessori curriculum, how to use the Montessori equipment and how to present material to the children in your age grouping.

If I have teaching experience, can I get course exemptions?

We can only give Recognition of Prior learning to other Montessori Qualifications as a rule. Please see the RPL/RCC information package for further information.

Can I get registration to teach with an MWEI qualification?

Yes, with the Graduate Diploma in Education (Montessori). It is accredited with the Office of Higher Education and recognised by teacher registration bodies in all states through WACOT (West Australian College of Teachers).
