THE MONTESSORI WORLD EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE is a non-profit corporation founded by a group of educators in co-operation with Miss Margaret Homfray for the purpose of making training, information, and materials related to the Montessori Method of Education more easily accessible to parents and educators.

Margaret Homfray, the founding Educational Director, trained and worked with Dr. Maria Montessori in Rome and London, and was designated by Dr. Montessori to be Co-principal of a permanent Montessori teacher training centre in London, England, and given written authorization to grant the Montessori Diploma. As a result of working closely with Dr. Montessori and her associates, Miss Homfray was asked to give Montessori workshops in many parts of the world and in numerous Universities and Colleges in the United States. She was regarded as one of the world’s leading authorities on the Montessori Method of Education which she served for more than sixty years.

Initially, Miss Homfray and Miss Child developed a correspondence course from London in 1949. Upon becoming Educational Director for MWEI, Miss Homfray, in consultation with Miss Child, extensively revised and updated the courses, and further improvements have been implemented since, particularly with the introduction of our accredited courses in Australia.
